Shopping

Plan your food shopping by individual items or by your own menus.

When you first open the application, you’ll need to add items to your ‘available list’. This list should contain all the items you may want to put on a shopping list. You don’t need to add them all in one go, just add the ones you need for your first list, and next time you make a shopping list, if an item you want isn’t on the available list, add it.

To add items to the available list, tap ‘Items’ in the top-right corner of the application’s front screen. This shows the available list. Tap ‘Add’, enter the item’s name and tap ‘Return’. This item is now available. If you want to remove an item from your available list, just drag your finger to the right across that item and tap the ‘delete’ button that appears.

Your ‘wanted list’ is the items that you’re shopping for. To add items to this list, first go to the available list by tapping ‘Items’. From there, tap the required items in the available list and confirm their addition to the wanted list in the box that appears. When you’re done, tap the ‘Wanted Items’ button in the top-left corner to view your newly created shopping list.

As you go round the shop, swipe across each item in the wanted list as you pick it up and tap ‘delete’. It’ll disappear from your list.

You may find that there are a few meals that you make quite often. The ‘Menus’ page (get there by tapping ‘Menus’ from the application’s  front screen) lists all of your available menus. Tapping on one and confirming will add all of it’s ingredients to the wanted list. Of course, the first time out, there won’t be any menus in the list so tap ‘Edit’ to make one. The ‘Edit Menus’ page again lists your available menus but from here, you can edit the contents, delete them (swipe right, just like with items) or add new ones. Tap ‘New’ to create a new menu. Give it a name and tap ‘Return’.

Your new menu is now in the ‘Edit Menus’ list but currently has no ingredients, so tap on it to edit it. You add ingredients to a menu in exactly the same way as you add items to the wanted list. Tap ‘Add’ and select the ingredients from the available list. Bear in mind this is exactly the same available list as for items, so make sure you’ve already added all the ingredients to the available list. When you’ve added all the ingredients, tap ‘Ingredients’ to go back. From here, you can remove items if you’ve added something by mistake. Just swipe across the erroneous item and tap delete, just like in the wanted list.

Once you’ve finished your menu, tap ‘Edit Menus’ followed by ‘Menus’ to get back to the menu screen. From here, you can add all the ingredients for your menu to your wanted list with by tapping the menu and confirming.

Speeding up the interface

Once you’re familiar with the way the program works, you may want to try a quicker method for creating lists and menus and removing items as you shop. Open the ‘Settings’ application, scroll down and select ‘Shopping’. Turning on ‘Speed Interface’ will make the following changes:

- You no longer have to confirm to add items or menus to your wanted list.

  1. -Removing items from the wanted list or whilst editing a menu is now done just by tapping the item.

Of course, if you prefer the first method, just go back into ‘Settings’ and switch ‘Speed Interface’ off.
